Projects

A mix of open-source, volunteer, and personal work.

NextRide

An open-source ride-matching platform built for Radeln ohne Alter Düsseldorf, connecting volunteer pilots with riders for trishaw outings. Designed around four roles (pilot, rider, facility, coordinator), self-hostable via Docker Compose, and licensed AGPL-3.0.

  • Accessibility-first: targeting WCAG 2.2 AA/AAA, with a Leichte Sprache (plain language) toggle and SMS-first notifications for riders who aren't online
  • TypeScript monorepo backend — Express, Prisma/PostgreSQL, Zod validation, JWT auth, WebSockets, tested with Jest and built on GitHub Actions CI

Citybound Essen

A website redesign for Citybound Essen, a non-profit focused on experiential education (Erlebnispädagogik). Rebuilt the content and layout from their existing WordPress site into a fresh, modern design while keeping their brand identity intact.

Stallion Fixed-Wing UAV

A scratch-built twin-motor fixed-wing drone build (Flightory Stallion airframe). Involved extensive component research and sourcing — comparing motors, flight controllers, and frame materials for cost, performance, and availability within the EU.

ChemTec GmbH — Network & DMZ Design

A school project designing a secure network architecture, including a DMZ, for a fictional company. Delivered a full documentation package — requirements specification (Pflichtenheft), network diagrams, project structure plan, test cases — and presented the result in English as part of a small team.

Homelab

An ongoing home infrastructure lab: Proxmox virtualization, UniFi networking, pfSense/OPNsense firewalling, and Home Assistant tying it all together. Includes a LoRaWAN deployment (ChirpStack, indoor gateway), Meshtastic experiments, ESPHome-based sensors, and a fair amount of electronics and soldering along the way.

Infrastructure-as-Code Pipeline

A self-hosted virtualization pipeline built around Packer, Terraform, and Ansible to provision Proxmox VMs from Ubuntu/Debian cloud-init images, with changes tracked in GitLab and applied through CI/CD rather than by hand. Also includes a small Kubernetes cluster (one control plane, three workers) provisioned the same way, using Flannel for networking.

Self-Hosted DNS

Migrated internal DNS from BIND to Technitium, after evaluating automation-first alternatives like DNSControl and OctoDNS. Focused on keeping DNS changes version-controlled and reproducible rather than managed by hand.

DWD Weather Data Pipeline

A data engineering project ingesting decades of historical weather observations from Germany's national weather service (DWD) — several hundred million rows — into a proper time-series store. Built around Polars for fast data wrangling, with TimescaleDB and InfluxDB evaluated for the storage layer, plus deduplication, station metadata handling, and resumable imports.

USB Malware-Scanning Station

A standalone scanning station (built on the Heise Desinfec't live environment) for safely checking USB drives before they touch other machines — automatic scan-and-copy, hash-based tracking of already-scanned files, and handling for mismatched drive capacities.

Mobility Scooter Controller Reverse-Engineering

A hardware reverse-engineering project on a Rhino mobility-scooter controller: tracing out the diagnostic connector pinout with a multimeter, and working out how to interface with it over serial to avoid an expensive vendor-only diagnostic adapter.

PIKSL Presenter

A digital signage kiosk built on a Raspberry Pi, running Raspberry Pi OS Lite with a systemd-managed presentation service.
